Increasing numbers of schools are abandoning the government set target of getting 50 per cent of their pupils to learn a foreign language by the age of 14, it was revealed today by the Independent.
With even some of the Government’s own specialist language colleges having failed to reach the benchmark, schools are producing a generation of young people who are not equipped to assume the top jobs in the international market, in keeping with research findings from the Centre for Information on Language Teaching.
